Current discourse in Architecture is mainly concerned with ‘parametricism’. The avante-garde led by the hubristic Hadid’s or Schumacher’s of this world would proclaim it the new paradigm, style, and epoch. Others would disagree. Keiren Long (Architects Journal, 2008), in his assessment of the British blobs and forms at the 2008 Venice Biennale, said, “It is irresponsible not to focus a biennale on buildings…the 2008 biennale is the year that the avante garde finally disappeared into its own darkest recesses. Let’s hope the recession finishes the job”. Which ever position you might assume it is clear parametric design has invaded the Architectural psyche and is here to stay. With this in mind it is important that we start to understand how to get the parameters right.
